PDS transporters reiterate demands, threaten stir

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The All Arunachal Pradesh PDS Transporters’ Welfare Association (AAPPDSTWA) today reiterated its demands of early release of PDS/HTS bills. The Association said that it will be compelled to boycott and disrupt supply of essential PDS items in the state if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.
While addressing a press conference here this afternoon, the Association’s Chairman Bengia Bado said that genuine contractors are being deprived of their PDS/HTS bill payments since 2004 because of the vested interests of a ‘few illegal organizations’ which have been interfering with the working of the directorate of Food & Civil Supplies department.
Referring to news doing the rounds in various social networking sites wherein the PPA allegedly claimed that a payment of Rs. 200 crores have already been released to the PDS contractors, Bado said that the Association strongly condemns such statement and urges other associations and political parties to refrain from interfering in the issue. The Association will also seek legal recourse if the alleged illegal associations do not desist from intimidating the officials and interfering in the departmental works, he added.

Fire mishaps continue to create havoc in Daporijo

DAPORIJO, Jan 12: Fire mishaps continue to create havoc in the fire prone Upper Subansiri district. Atleast four major fire accidents have occurred within the Daporijo Township in a span of less than three weeks.
A fire broke out in Rijo Middle School yesterday creating panic among the students who were attending classes. All the students were evacuated safely and there were no reports of injuries. The fire reportedly had spread from a house adjacent to the school near the vegetable market at around 12.30 pm.
The blaze was brought under control by the fire brigade.
The fire devastated several SPT, OBT and RCC houses. Six rooms of the school were also destroyed completely and two partially in the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. But it is suspected that the fire was ignited by a carelessly disposed cigarette butt in the vegetable store, said K Taping, Sub Fire Officer.
Fire also broke out at Pakam Colony on January 2, Ligu Village on January 4, Sigin Colony on December 8 and 25. One abandoned Maruti car was destroyed by fire at Airfield on January 5.
Properties worth over crores of rupees were damaged in fire accidents that had occurred during first week of January this year, informed the Fire Officer.
National Youth Day celebrated across state

At Naharalgun, Oju Welfare Association marking the National Youth Day conducted a mass social service under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on the banks of Papu Nalah stream near the vicinity of Oju Misssion School.
Addressing the event, Chairperson OWA, Ratan Anya appealed the students and locals to keep surroundings clean and hygienic in order to attain healthy environment. She stated that mass social service will be conducted annually on the day to accomplish dream of Clean India Mission.
The event witnessed a gathering of more than 300 people consisting of staffs, teachers, students of Oju Mission School and local inhabitants of Papu Nalah area.
At VKV Kuporijo, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti was celebrated with colorful cultural programme by the school students. The students performed drama depicting incidents from the life of Swami Vivekananda, skits on social issue and traditional dance. The programme was witnessed by a huge participation of parents and well wishers.
Attending the programme, DDSE Upper Subansiri, Tape Jeram gave away the proficiency prizes to the students. He exhorted the students to follow the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and lauded VKVs for imparting quality education. Jeram also inaugurated new girl’s toilet block in the school and released a new song “Arunachal Spirit”, a song by local band, produced and lyrics by Tako Siga, a teacher. At VKV Nirjuli, a mega procession was flagged off by Education Officer, VKVs APT, P M Unnikrishnan as part of the celebration. A film on the life and ideals of Swami Vivekananda was also screened for the students.
Addressing the students, Unnikrishnan exhorted the students to materialize the vision and mission of Swami Vivekananda.
Speaking on the occasion, Director, Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Taw Tebin advised the students to develop the attitude of sacrifice and service for the development of mankind.

HC dismisses writ petition of Wangsu and Sawin
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The Gauhati High Court today dismissed the writ petition filed by Gabriel D Wangsu and Wanglam Sawin challenging their disqualification as MLAs in Arunachal Legislative Assembly. In a judgment which will have serious ramification in the political scenario of Arunachal, Justice T Vaiphei, chief justice (acting) and Justice M R Pathak while dismissing the petition said there is no merit in the writ petition.
“After examining the case from all angles, we are satisfied that speaker has not violated any mandatory provision of law in not rejecting the resignation letters of petitioners and is rather correct in accepting the resignation letters of the petitioners. In any case, by such omission, no prejudice is caused to the house or the public,” the judges noted while delivering the verdict.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: While appreciating the National Youth Project for scouting people with special abilities (PWSAs) throughout Arunachal Pradesh to skill them, planning secretary Sonam Chombay and Capital DC Mige Kamki today exhorted the PWSAs not to be depressed as dayaki patra but to be mentally prepared by rising to the occasion.
Realising the lacuna in GoAP’s skill development programme, Chombay announced to amend it to benefit the PWSAs.
It may be recalled that Arunachal has about more than 67,000 PWSAs as per All Arunachal Pradesh Handicapped Welfare Society (AAPHWS) data.
While informing the GoAP’s benevolent schemes – monthly Disability Pension @ Rs 1,000 pm (increased from Rs 500) and CMUHIS (cashless treatment up to Rs 3 lakh in about 60 empanelled hospitals through the country), when Chombay asked the beneficiaries to raise their hands only three and four persons respectively raised hands.
Depressed, Chombay hinted at lack of awareness and assured all possible help to 34 participants to avail benefits of all state flagship programmes and urged the NYP to help them.

Call for successful launch of National Deworming day
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare, Bolung Siram has called upon all key stakeholder/departments to coordinate with the Health department for effective rollout of the National Deworming Day.
The Commissioner was speaking today at the coordination committee members meeting for the implementation of National Deworming Day to be held on Feb 10 in the state.
Siram also stressed for maintenance of strict time scheduled and constant liaison with other departments for successful implementation of NDD.
National Deworming day is an initiative to help our children to live healthy and reduce morbidities among children; so our main motive should be, to cover every child under this programme, he added.
Mission Director (NHM), P N Thungon said “we need to ensure proper implementation of NDD” and put emphasis on mobilization of community with the help of ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
The meeting resolved to work in coordination and also put their concerted efforts to ensure effective implementation of NDD and also decided to issue strict directive to the districts in this regard for better coordination. Irregularity in distribution of CGI sheet alleged
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS) has alleged irregularity in distribution of CGI sheets under IAY to the beneficiaries of the community residing in East Kameng, Papum Pare, Kurung Kurney and Kra Daadi districts.
As per government norms, a beneficiary family should get 55 pieces of CGI under IAY. But, in those district, only 35 pieces are being distributed to each beneficiary, claimed APWS in its complaint letter to the Chief Secretary.
It was also alleged that some individuals are collecting Rs.2000 to Rs3000 from the listed beneficiaries in the name of society fund and those who are unable to pay the amount have been deprived from the benefit in Bameng constituency of East Kameng district.

For the second time ‘Siang Aarti Mahotsav Celebration Committee’ led by Pasighat Municipal Councilor, Makpak Peyang is organizing the river festival in active collaboration with Bogong Banggo Yameng Kebang and few local organizations.
The first day programme includes holy bath at Komolighat portion of Siang river to be followed by mass prayer (Aarti puja) for peace and communal harmony. There will be a musical programme on the concluding day.
The Siang Aarti volunteers have cleaned up the riverbank at Komolighat and working day and night to give a new look to the festival site.
The organizers informed that people of different communities of the state and neighbouring Assam have been invited to perform Aarti puja on Siang river bed for peace and communal harmony. They are optimistic that the Siang river basin at Pasighat will become a place for exchanging ideas and feelings among the people of different religious communities.

DFO visits Mell Botom Tourist Lodge
‘Mission Green Daporijo’ to be launched
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Upper Subansiri district Taji Bui, Range Officer Tadit Ebiya and team of officials from department of Forest and Environment today inspected the avenue plantation at Mell Botom Tourist Lodge, Daporijo.
While inspecting the plantation, DFO Bui and Range Officer Ebiya assured the Managing Director of the tourist lodge Dosh Dasi to extend all possible help and cooperation from the department of Forest and Environment, particularly for the second round of avenue plantation at the tourist lodge. The DFO suggested for plantation of Nahor, Gauva, and other local fruit bearing tress like Hinchu, Hirruh etc.
He appreciated Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Komkar Dulom for the Mission “Green Daporijo” initiative through avenue plantation and his visit to the lodge for observing the growth of the saplings planted during April last year.
Department of Environment and Forest, Daporijo is likely to launch “Mission Green Daporijo” in collaboration with District Administration this year, Bui informed. He advised the MD of the tourist lodge to include the programme of second round of Avenue Plantation at Mell Botom Tourist Lodge in consultation with the Deputy Commissioner, Upper Subansiri.
Various plant species, including Cryptomartia Japanica, Ashoka, Golmohor, Bokul, Nahor, Christmas Tree, Kala Jamun, Tuja Compectha, Mehendhi, Devdas, Aprilful sapling were planted at the Tourist Lodge premises by Deputy Commissioner Dulom, parliamentary Secretary Dikto Yekar, all the Head of the Departments, lawyers and NGOs on April 8, 2015, informed MD Dosh Dasi.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12 : The Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Government of India undertaking under the Department of Disability Affairs of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment conducted screening camp under Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) programme to identify persons with disabilities for providing aids and assistance.
About 128 persons with disabilities (PWDs) from entire Namsai district were screened.
A Medical Board was also set up for assistance and necessary certification of the registered and screened persons.
The aids and assistance will be supplied through the partner NGOs in the next couple of months.

AAPPTF reminds PWD minister of his assurance
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has reminded the PWD Minister of his assurance given to the Federation for renovation of roads and construction of highways in the state, including Capital Complex, within a time frame.
Describing the hardship faced by the motorists and public in general due to the deplorable condition of roads in capital complex, right from Banderdewa to Itanagar, the AAPPTF demanded the PWD Minister to fulfill his assurance within 15 days failing which it threatened to launch democratic movement.
The federation in its earlier memorandum demanded to initiate renovation and construction of roads within a month or else the federation would launch democratic movement to meet its demands.
AYUSH training starts
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: A two days refresher training for Medical Officers (AYUSH) under the aegis of National AYUSH Mission is being conducted at Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun.
A total of 32 AYUSH doctors are attending the training programme from different districts being conducted by AYUSH Mission Society.
Attending the inaugural function, Director of Health Services, Dr. Moji Jini emphasized the importance of education and conducting such training programme which will enhance the skills. The AYUSH system of medicine should be strengthened and they should be proactive towards serving the needy peoples, said Dr. Jini.
DDHS (AYUSH) Dr. Dusu Laji highlighted the main objectives of the training. The objectives are to update the knowledge and skills on Mother and Child Health Care, Basic Laboratory Testing Protocol and its interpretation, Common Medico Legal Issues, Emergency Management of Common ENT, Common Skin diseases, Management of Geriatric Complain and Sensitization of National AYUSH Mission Programme etc.

APTWA demands immediate release of 10 months’ student stipend
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Welfare Association (APTWA) has demanded immediate release of 10 months student stipend on one go.
In its 20 days ultimatum served to the education minister, it has also objected to the order of the state government that separate passbooks have to be opened for each student saying that many of the schools are located in interior areas where there is no facility of banking and electricity.
Also seeking immediate release of fund under RTE, it has warned of launching democratic movement if the demand is not fulfilled at the earliest.
Farmers on exposure visit to Sikkim
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: 18 farmers from West Siang district participated in a training cum exposure visit programme on spice cultivation and production at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim centre on January 7 and 8 last.
Jointly organized by Young Mission Adventure Club, Itanagar and ICAR Sikkim, participants were taught about scientific methods of cultivation, climatic condition, varieties, pest diseases and their control on spices mainly large cardamom and ginger.

India will have to maintain balance
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will pay two day official visit to Palestine and Israel from 17th of this month. The two countries is very important partner of India. India and Israel share close relation in the fields of agriculture, science and technology and education. The visit will augment India’s bilateral relations with Israel and further strengthen the linkages between the two sides. In recent year Israel has emerged as major exporter of defence equipment to India. They even managed to outpace countries like Russia and US. Large chunk of India’s military need is imported from Israel. The growing closeness in defence field has massively improved the relation between India and Israel. During the visit, Ms Swaraj will hold discussions with the Israeli leadership and review entire gamut of bilateral relations. Ms. Swaraj will also interact with the Indian community in Israel.

At least let the recruitment process of teachers be clean & fair
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my views regarding
recruitment of T.G.T.s & P.G.T.s in our state. Recently, the recruitment exam for
T.G.T. & P.R.T. was conducted by the Directorate of Higher Education, Itanagar. There
was no written examination but only viva voice. The minimum qualification was APTET/CTET
certificate. So, the APTET/CTET can be considered as the written portion of the recruitment
process but again the marks of APTET/CTET were not taken into consideration as it
is just of qualifying nature with certain pass mark to get the certificate of APTET/CTET.
So, in such case it is very easy to manipulate the marks of viva as there are no
written marks. Recently, due to so many cases of corruption in viva process, Honourable
P.M. Modi has decided to remove the viva portion from recruitment of group C & D
posts. The recent exam of T.G.T & P.R.T. conducted by the directorate of higher education
Itanagar was very unsatisfactory as said by most of the candidates. So, I would like
to request the APPSC to conduct the upcoming T.G.T.s & especially P.G.T.s (as it
is a high level post) by issuing fresh advertisement, for the satisfaction of all
the aspiring candidates. At least let the recruitment process of teachers be clean
& fair, as the teachers are the nation/future builders. Also I request various teachers
& students associations/organisations to look into the matter. Lastly I pray to every
concerned persons/authorities/departments of our great “corruption-

They must look into their own house
Dear Editor,
Several intellectuals, politicians and human right activists in North America and
Europe have been extremely critical of the status of democracy in India and about
sporadic incidents of violence and human rights abuses in the country. They always
fail to see how much a multi-
India has survived the loots and plunders conducted by British colonizers and suffered the wrath of ethnic conflicts for several decades. Both the US and Canada share a bloody history of ruthless exploitation, plunders, rapes and mass murders of helpless and defenseless aboriginal inhabitants of the land (Native Indians/ First Nations/ Canadian Indians/American Indians/Tribals) by the European settlers and early migrants glorified in history as Pioneers and/or Settlers. Similar tales of heinous right abuses by European colonizers is evident around the globe. Will the Canadian and American governments work the glorious paths of democracy to return the huge tracts of lands that their forefathers have stolen from the simple minded native inhabitants through cruel persecution, treachery and injustice portrayed to the rest of the world in the form of Peace Treaties? If yes, then I have no problem in accepting their criticisms for India .
However, if their answer is no, then I would humbly suggest the citizens in North America and Europe, to refrain from making loose suggestions to self respecting and sovereign citizens of other countries.
They must look into their own house before advising others. I guess there are a saying people leaving in glass houses should not throw stone at others. People from developed nations are judgmental and often prejudiced in their opinion and analysis of situations in other countries specifically from the developing world; that has been kept under developed due to the huge plunders made by the colonial masters to strengthen their economy. Western democracies do not need to advice India about democracy and human rights when they have so much blood in their own hands.

New Year Bonanza
Dear Editor,
This is regarding creation of 825 posts under health department on Dec 31. It was a very hopeful and heartwarming message and truly completed the meaning “with new year, comes new hopes”.
But at the same time it was shocking to see that not even a single word or post was mentioned for the dental fraternity. Even though dental heath comes under allopathic system, we have always been ignored by the health department and state. No post has been created till date but our counterparts from other states enjoy the benefits of properly channelized health system.
Therefore, on behalf of all unemployed dental doctors, I would like to appeal to the Health commissioner, Director health, Deputy Director (Dental), Health Minister and finally the Chief minister to look into the matter and to create Specialist post (dental) as well as medical officer post (dental) so that we can impart our knowledge for the betterment of society and for the people of Arunachal as a whole.
Secondly, I would like to emphasis on proper recruitment rules and conduct of exam in a fair manner by APPSC. Let’s keep alive the proverb “hard work is always rewarded”.
